How to Taste Tea
There’s more to tasting Nuwara Eliya tea than just drinking it! If you observe more than just the taste of the beverage, you can begin to develop your palate and enjoy the great things tea has to offer.
1. Look at the leaves. Are they broken, full leaves, fluffy or fine? Observe their color. Tea with tips are usually more nuanced and have a complex flavor.
2. Sniff the leaves. Often times the scent of the leaves will indicate the taste once it’s brewed. Even without flavorings, plain tea can have unique fresh, smokey, or even sweet hints to them.
3. Brew the Nuwara Eliya tea. Watch the leaves unfold as they change the steamy water a new color.
4. Smell the brew. Smelling a steaming cup of the beverage is one of the greater things in life. How it smells is just as important as it tastes.
5. Taste the Nuwara Eliya tea! We suggest waiting for it to cool a few minutes while you smell it. Slurp in the beverage little by little, covering your entire tongue. This will allow you to get the full taste. Aerating the beverage by sucking more air in through your lips can release more of the flavor of the tea.
6. Observe the feeling in your mouth. Nuwara Eliya tea and/or its ingredients can make your mouth feel dry, moist, or coated. Is it creamy, smooth, or rough on your tongue?
Tasting this way can help you find your perfect cuppa!
